MEDIAL for Blackboard: Installing the Building Block

Below are instructions on how to install the Blackboard Building Block and use this in conjunction with your MEDIAL instance

Installation:

1. Download the Building Block - click here

2. Unzip the contents of the zip file

3. There will a .war file contained within the folder that has been extracted

4. Log in to Blackboard as Administrator

5. Navigate to System Admin > Building Blocks

6. Click on Upload Building Blocks

7. Click Browse to select your MEDIAL .war file, Select and Upload

8. Once Uploaded click Submit

9. Now that Building Block is installed click on Settings for the MEDIAL Building Block

10. Click on LTI Credentials

11. On the LTI credentials screen enter the details that are entered in the MEDIAL Admin interface at Security -> Learning Tools Interoperability

Note: The Sign-On URL is the URL of the back end of your MEDIAL instance appended by /lti e.g. https://upload.university.edu/lti

The Key and Secret are located in the MEDIAL Admin Interface within the Learning Tools Interoperability section of the Security configuation page

12. Click Save on the LTI Credentials page in MEDIAL & in Blackboard

13. Navigate to System Admin > Tools

14. Find the MEDIAL Tool and make available as required

Testing the Building Block:

1. Log in as an Instructor and Navigate to a Course Page and then click Content

2. Click on Build Content > Mashups > MEDIAL (Media Library)

3. Add a Name and Description

4. Select MEDIAL from the drop down Mashup List

5. This will launch a new window , click Upload a new media item

7. Complete Upload process, if you selected "AD/LDAP only" when configuring MEDIAL you many be prompted for your Active Directory or LDAP credentials to progress. Click Finish at end of the process

8. A new item will be added to the Rich Text Editor

9. Click Submit

The Building Block can also be used by Students to make video submissions in response to Video Assignments set by Instructors, see video content below to see how this is acheived.
